That’s right, when The Diesel isn’t talking smack about tonight’s Lakers vs Suns showdown, he’ll be twittering about the good life that is the NBA. Mashable reports that @THE_REAL_SHAQ is in fact the real Shaq and unlike a lot of other celebrity Twitter users, Shaq is really the guy behind the tweets. A post on the Twitter blog corroborates the story. Given Shaq’s penchant for one-liners and zingers, I plan on following him just to see what he’s going to say next. This should be interesting especially if the Suns can somehow pull off the upset tonight in Phoenix. If they do, you should definitely tune into Twitter to see what’s on Shaq’s mind.
Evidently Shaq’s road to social media began when he found out that an impostor was impersonating him on Twitter. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Shaq grabbed the bull by the horns and started tweeting on his own. Now he’s up to almost 2,500 followers which will no doubt start growing quickly since word is now out that it’s really him. Maybe Shaq’s embrace of social media will rally Pheonix fans around the cause. Based on the latest data, the Suns FanSection application is trailing the Lakers app by almost 3 to 1 with ~56K users compared to ~150K users. So welcome to the wonderful world of social media Shaq. Is this a sign of things to come for professional athletes in general? Stay tuned.
