Believing in Now (and maybe some good FanSection stats, too)

It’s been a long road to Super Bowl XLIII, but D-Day is upon us. While many fans have been preparing by acquiring hoards of nachos, hot wings, and beer, we at Watercooler have taken a slightly different approach by implementing a “Biggest Fan Photo” contest for all the 2009 playoff teams.
Here’s how it broke down: Fans of all 12 playoff teams were encouraged to submit photos showing why they’re the biggest fan. Once that phase ended, fans voted for the photo that they felt best represented the team they’re so passionate about. Then, all the winners were pooled together and the Watercooler Community Management team had the tough job of picking the overall first, second and third place prize winners, all of whom received gift certificates (in varying amounts) to the NFL Shop.
The following are a couple of interesting stats:
- 2,238 total photo submissions. In first place here, we have the Pittsburgh Steelers (foreshadowing, anyone?) with 469 entries. Second goes to the New York Giants with 397, and third to the Philadelphia Eagles with 326.
- 18,540 was the total number of votes, and there are some distinct ratio patterns between this number and the total number of submissions. For example, Pittsburgh gets the gold medal here, too, with a staggering 5,108 votes. With 3,015 votes, the silver medal goes to the Eagles, and 2,078 votes gives the bronze medal to the New York Giants.
And now… drum roll, please… I am happy to announce our overall contest winners - complete with photos - for your viewing pleasure:
1st overall: Tennessee Titans Caption: Somewhere between Najaf and Karbala…My “cou-cou’s” flag is always with me when I am out playing.
2nd place: Minnesota Vikings Caption: My son Phillip showing he truly bleeds purple already at such a young age!
3rd place: Indianapolis Colts Caption: In May of 07, Courtney was diagnosed at St. Vincent Children’s Hospital with a terminal brain tumor. She was released from the hospital the day before Peyton Manning visited the cancer ward. She was crushed.

I love the kid’s hair!
