The greatest unofficial US sports holiday is almost here.  Selection Sunday is only two days away and the start of the 2009 NCAA Tournament starts in under a week.  This is quite possibly my favorite 3 week period of the year - especially next weekend.  Even if you’re not a huge sports fan, there is no denying that March Madness is simply awesome.

Chris Crum at WebProNews did a nice job with a post summarizing the three main bracket applications on Facebook, and we’re happy to say that FanSection is far away #1.  Here’s a quick look at where we’re at with the 2009 Bracket Challenge:

  • Total users - 501K
  • Monthly active users - 439K
  • Total invitations sent - 2.5 million

We’ve already surpassed the 2008 application by 150K users, and we think we’re on par to hit 700K depending on how much traffic comes after the brackets are announced on Sunday.  The week following the bracket announcements is traditionally the biggest growth opportunity for this application.  We’re very excited to see where we are on Monday morning.
