While the vast majority of Major League baseball players continue to toil in the Florida and Arizona suns during spring training, the best of the best will be in Japan battling it out in the World Baseball Classic.  And, if you’re an early riser or burning the midnight oil depending on your timezone, you can catch every pitch on MLB.TV.  Silicon Alley Insider has the details.

So far the reviews are pretty good, and there’s a lot of buzz about all of the upgrades Major League Baseball made during the offseason.  The player has been upgraded to HD, leading many to believe that plenty of die-hard baseball fans will line up to pay the $110 subscription fee.  Over 500K paid $120 last year, so the MLB is expecting that number to go up despite the worsening economy.

Baseball definitely has its hardcore fans, and the number of games during the day makes MLB.TV very attractive for those that want to watch while at work.  As noted in a Top 5 post from a few weeks ago, the FanSection baseball communities are already off and running despite no marketing or other stimulus yet.  That’s a great sign considering we ended the 2008 season on a high note with the Philadelphia Phillies application more than doubling in size - and already increasing by 30% since December.
