Evidently Engergie Cottbus, a Bundesliga first division team, felt so bad about its poor performance after its sixth loss in seven games, that it refunded tickets to all fans that traveled to an away game. The team also issued a statement that included this line, “By refunding the cost of admission for their supporters, the red and whites would like to apologise for the pitiful performance which they displayed at the Veltins Arena.”
That’s pretty much laying it on the line isn’t it. It’s admirable that a professional sports team recognizes when it owes fans, aka customers, an apology and a refund for stinking it up in its place of business. We would expect a restaurant to make good on a bad steak right? So why shouldn’t we as fans be entitled to some sort of make good when our favorite team lays a giant egg on the field? I’m thinking Yankees season ticket holders are at least owed a few bucks after the way that new ballpark has been treated by the guys in pinstripes. Talk about pathetic.
