Vancouver Canucks on FacebookThe Vancouver Canucks get social media.  At Watercooler, we’ve worked with several professional sports teams from the Montreal Canadiens to the Los Angeles Clippers, but it’s clear when talking to the folks in Vancouver that they get it more than most.  And that is by no means a shot at the others. You can probably argue that the NHL in general is ahead of the game compared to the other professional leagues, as evidenced by the Tweetups they sponsored juset before the playoffs. And the Canucks are probably at the top of the list when it comes to the other NHL teams.

In fact, it only takes one look at the Canucks website for further evidence on how they embrace user generated content and social media.  While all NHL team sites are pretty much the same and all include a FanZone, the Canucks have taken their’s to the next level and have built it into a place rich with fan contributed content from blogs to photos to videos.  And don’t forget how the team has embraced Twitter with abandon.  Check it out here - it’s much more than the standard bot as Kevin Kinghorn, Director of New Media, is often the man behind the tweets.

So given the Canucks penchant for the social web, we were very excited to work with them to develop a CanucksTV page within the Vancouver Canucks Fan application on Facebook.  The page is designed to showcase the exclusive video the Canucks provide on CanucksTV including game footage, player interviews, and season highlights.  Additionally, we’re also helping to give away round 2 playoff tickets to some lucky fans.  We look forward to seeing Vancouver continue their run through the Stanley Cup Playoffs so that we can prolong the partnership this season while loooking for ways to do things bigger and better in 2009-2010.
